Phi Kappa Psi Welcomes Two New Trustees

The Phi Kappa Psi Foundation is proud to announce the election of two distinguished alumni to its Board of Trustees: Michael Schroeder UMN Twin Cities ’80 and John Watkins Miami ’79. Their appointments represent a significant addition to the Foundation’s leadership, bringing with them decades of professional excellence, philanthropic vision, and steadfast commitment to the values of Phi Kappa Psi.

A Champion for Scholarship and Philanthropy: Michael Schroeder

Brother Michael Schroeder brings to the Board a passion for advancing educational opportunity and a steadfast commitment to philanthropic service. Throughout his involvement with Phi Kappa Psi, Michael has demonstrated a remarkable dedication to ensuring that deserving students have access to the support they need to achieve academic and professional success.

Michael is the founding donor of the Schroeder Family Finance Award, a national scholarship that supports undergraduates and graduates pursuing careers in finance, investment banking, and asset management. Created in honor of both Michael and his son, John Schroeder Kentucky ’12, the award reflects a family legacy of giving and a firm belief in the power of education to transform lives. His involvement as a scholarship reviewer and longtime volunteer further underscores his commitment to empowering the next generation of leaders.

Professionally, Michael built a career in the financial services sector, serving as President and Chief Risk Officer of Wasmer, Schroeder & Company prior to his retirement. He holds a degree in Business from the Carlson School at the University of Minnesota and is a Certified Financial Planner. He remains actively involved in community and nonprofit work, including service on the boards of Friends of Foster Children of Southwest Florida and advisory roles at Florida Gulf Coast University.

Michael’s philanthropic mindset and his belief in education as a pathway to opportunity make him a powerful advocate for the mission of the Foundation.

A Global Leader with a Heart for Service: John Watkins

Brother John Watkins built a remarkable career rooted in global leadership, business innovation, and social impact. A recipient of the Phi Psi National Leadership Award, John exemplifies the Fraternity’s highest ideals. He currently serves as Principal of COhatch Regional Development Ventures, leading the growth of a coworking and lifestyle organization focused on community enrichment.

Throughout his 30+ year career, John has held prominent executive roles including CEO of The VOID in Asia, ASC Fine Wines, and AVIAGE Systems. He also served as Vice President at both Cummins and Northwest Airlines. John’s international perspective has also informed his board service with organizations such as Junior Achievement (China), the American Chamber of Commerce in China, and the Beijing International Christian Fellowship.

Within the Phi Psi community, John’s support has been both personal and impactful. He is the namesake of the Watkins Christian Scholarship Fund, established by a fellow Ohio Lambda brother to recognize Christian servant leadership.

Strengthening the Foundation’s Future

Michael and John are strategic additions to the Board of Trustees and further enhance the Board’s ability to make important impact, both locally and nationally.  Their leadership and contributions will benefit Phi Kappa Psi for years to come.
